Langify + Shopify integration

  • International

Connecting Langify to Shopify comes down to three decisions: which data moves, which system owns it, and whether an existing connector is enough.

Describe your setup ↗

What Langify is

Langify is a Shopify translation app. It handles manual and machine translation, imports and exports, and custom content that sits outside Shopify's standard fields.

How we would approach Langify with Shopify

We used Langify to add an English version of a Dutch store against a trade-fair deadline. Most of the time went on content Langify couldn't see: custom fields, strings hard-coded in theme code and text owned by other apps. We found those first, moved hard-coded strings into translatable places, then used exports and imports to translate in bulk.

What the work involves

  • An inventory of every customer-facing string, including apps and emails
  • Hard-coded theme strings moved where Langify can translate them
  • Bulk translation through exports and imports
  • A check of each language through cart, checkout and emails

Ways to connect Langify and Shopify

  • Existing app

    langify ‑ translate your store

The Langify app. Core use is free; machine translation, bulk translation and custom content are paid options.

  • Built in

    Shopify Translate & Adapt

Shopify's own translation app. Worth comparing if your needs are standard store content.

Where these projects go wrong

  • Custom metafields or app fields don't reach the translation app.
  • Strings written directly in Liquid or JavaScript stay in the original language.
  • Pop-ups and email tools are configured in one language only.
  • Machine-translated legal pages published without review.

Questions

Langify or Shopify Translate & Adapt?
For standard content, Shopify's own app may be enough. Langify adds custom content and third-party app integrations. We'd look at what your theme and apps need translated first.
Why are some words still untranslated?
Usually they're hard-coded in the theme or owned by another app. They need moving or a Langify custom-content entry.

Before we scope the work

  • Which data or customer journey needs to connect, and which system owns it?
  • What access, plan features or API permissions are available?
  • Does an existing connector cover the requirement, including failures and updates?
  • Who will maintain the connection, and how will you know it is working?

Send your current setup and one real example of the flow you need. We'll tell you whether it can be done and what it would take.
