Firmhouse + Shopify integration

  • Subscription

Connecting Firmhouse to Shopify comes down to three decisions: which data moves, which system owns it, and whether an existing connector is enough.

Describe your setup ↗

What Firmhouse is

Firmhouse is a platform for rental, lease and subscription commerce. It runs recurring billing, commitment periods, retries for failed payments and the customer's self-service portal, with a checkout built for those models.

How we would approach Firmhouse with Shopify

We moved a rental store onto Firmhouse after it had used two other rental and subscription apps. The work covered the rental product route, customer self-service and return notifications. The hard part was the product page: when an app owns prices and buttons, the theme's own price, discount and structured-data logic can show the wrong thing, so every state needs checking.

What the work involves

  • Rental products, plans and plan groups set up for each commitment period
  • The rental product page showing the right price for each plan
  • Customer self-service and return notifications
  • Checks on what the theme shows when Firmhouse owns the price

Ways to connect Firmhouse and Shopify

  • Existing app

    Firmhouse Shopify app

Installed from the Shopify App Store. Products tagged for Firmhouse sync as recurring products; plans and plan groups decide which terms a shopper sees.

  • Built in

    Firmhouse checkout

Firmhouse's checkout flow for lease, rental and subscription models, with recurring billing, retries and failed-payment handling.

  • Custom build

    Storefront SDK

Firmhouse's storefront SDK supports Shopify for custom product pages and carts.

Where these projects go wrong

  • The rental product can still be bought outright unless the theme or purchase options stop it.
  • The separate billing product used for repeat charges shows up in search or collections.
  • The theme's price, sale badge or structured data disagrees with the price Firmhouse charges.
  • Test mode is left on after launch.
  • A price change is made in one place and not the other.

Questions

Can Shopify handle rentals without Firmhouse?
Simple subscriptions, yes, with a subscription app. Rentals with minimum terms, returns and ownership rules are where a platform like Firmhouse earns its place.
How do rental prices work in Firmhouse?
For a few products, you can set exact monthly prices per plan. For a large catalogue, Firmhouse suggests keeping the monthly price on the Shopify product and applying discounts for longer commitments.
Can you migrate us from another rental app?
Yes. We did it on Womy Sleeper. Plan the cutover for existing customers before switching.

Before we scope the work

  • Which data or customer journey needs to connect, and which system owns it?
  • What access, plan features or API permissions are available?
  • Does an existing connector cover the requirement, including failures and updates?
  • Who will maintain the connection, and how will you know it is working?

Send your current setup and one real example of the flow you need. We'll tell you whether it can be done and what it would take.
