Windmill + Shopify integration
- Automation
Connecting Windmill to Shopify comes down to three decisions: which data moves, which system owns it, and whether an existing connector is enough.
Describe your setup ↗What Windmill is
Windmill is an open-source platform for running scripts and workflows, with schedules, retries, logs and simple internal UIs.
How we would approach Windmill with Shopify
Between Shopify Flow and a full custom app there's a middle ground: scheduled scripts that sync data, build reports or fix catalogue issues. Windmill runs them with logs and retries, so they don't live on someone's laptop.
What the work involves
- Scheduled syncs and reports using Shopify's Admin API
- Retries and logs for every run
- Simple internal forms for your team to trigger jobs
- Secrets stored in Windmill, not in scripts
Ways to connect Windmill and Shopify
Where these projects go wrong
- Scripts doing what Shopify Flow could do natively.
- No owner for failed runs.
Our experience
We haven't delivered a Windmill project for a client yet. This page is how we would approach one, and we check access and platform limits before quoting.
Questions
- Windmill, Make or a custom app?
- Make for simple connections between SaaS tools; Windmill when you need code with logs and retries; a custom app when it must run inside Shopify.
Before we scope the work
- Which data or customer journey needs to connect, and which system owns it?
- What access, plan features or API permissions are available?
- Does an existing connector cover the requirement, including failures and updates?
- Who will maintain the connection, and how will you know it is working?
Send your current setup and one real example of the flow you need. We'll tell you whether it can be done and what it would take.
