Storyblok + Shopify integration
- CMS
Connecting Storyblok to Shopify comes down to three decisions: which data moves, which system owns it, and whether an existing connector is enough.
Describe your setup ↗What Storyblok is
Storyblok is a headless CMS with a visual editor. Marketing teams use it to build landing pages, editorial content and campaigns from reusable blocks.
How we would approach Storyblok with Shopify
The first decision is architecture. Storyblok content can feed a headless storefront, or a few pages beside a Shopify theme. Then we model the blocks your team needs, add Storyblok's Shopify field so editors pick products and collections, and fetch live prices and stock from Shopify at render time so content never shows stale data.
What the work involves
- A decision between headless and theme-plus-CMS
- Block library modelled on the pages your team actually builds
- Storyblok's Shopify field for picking products and collections
- Live product data fetched from Shopify, not copied into Storyblok
Ways to connect Storyblok and Shopify
Where these projects go wrong
- Going headless for content alone, then rebuilding cart, search and apps the theme gave you for free.
- Copying product data into stories, so prices and stock go out of date.
- Blocks modelled on a design file rather than on how editors work.
- Plan requirements discovered after the build starts.
Our experience
We haven't delivered a Storyblok project for a client yet. This page is how we would approach one, and we check access and platform limits before quoting.
Questions
- Do we need a headless storefront to use Storyblok?
- No. Storyblok can serve content to selected pages while Shopify's theme runs the rest. Headless is a bigger commitment; it's worth it when content and design flexibility drive revenue.
- Will editors see real products in Storyblok?
- Yes. The Shopify field lets editors search and select products and collections; the page then fetches live details from Shopify.
- Which Storyblok plan do we need?
- Storyblok's app listing and its own docs name different tiers. Check with Storyblok for your account.
Before we scope the work
- Which data or customer journey needs to connect, and which system owns it?
- What access, plan features or API permissions are available?
- Does an existing connector cover the requirement, including failures and updates?
- Who will maintain the connection, and how will you know it is working?
Send your current setup and one real example of the flow you need. We'll tell you whether it can be done and what it would take.
