Sentry + Shopify integration
- Monitoring
Connecting Sentry to Shopify comes down to three decisions: which data moves, which system owns it, and whether an existing connector is enough.
Describe your setup ↗What Sentry is
Sentry is an error-monitoring service. It records errors in browsers and servers with the context needed to fix them: which page, which browser, what the user did.
How we would approach Sentry with Shopify
Custom theme JavaScript, such as a configurator, a sticky cart or a product-options widget, can fail on one browser and stop sales without anyone noticing. We add Sentry to custom code we write, filter out noise from third-party scripts, and route real errors to someone who fixes them. Custom apps and integrations get Sentry on the server side too.
What the work involves
- Sentry on custom theme JavaScript, filtered from third-party noise
- Server-side Sentry on custom apps and integrations
- Source maps so errors point to real code
- Alerts routed to a person, with release tracking
Ways to connect Sentry and Shopify
Where these projects go wrong
- Every third-party script error reported, so real problems drown.
- No source maps, so errors point at minified code.
- Alerts that go to a channel nobody reads.
Our experience
We haven't delivered a Sentry project for a client yet. This page is how we would approach one, and we check access and platform limits before quoting.
Questions
- Can Sentry see Shopify checkout errors?
- Not through the theme. Checkout runs Shopify's code; Sentry covers your storefront code and your custom services.
Before we scope the work
- Which data or customer journey needs to connect, and which system owns it?
- What access, plan features or API permissions are available?
- Does an existing connector cover the requirement, including failures and updates?
- Who will maintain the connection, and how will you know it is working?
Send your current setup and one real example of the flow you need. We'll tell you whether it can be done and what it would take.
