Rewind + Shopify integration

  • Backup

Connecting Rewind to Shopify comes down to three decisions: which data moves, which system owns it, and whether an existing connector is enough.

Describe your setup ↗

What Rewind is

Rewind Backups is a Shopify app that backs up products, themes, collections, customers and more, and restores a single item or the whole store.

How we would approach Rewind with Shopify

Shopify has no undo for product data, so a bulk import gone wrong or an app that rewrites descriptions can't be reversed without a backup. We install Rewind before any large migration or catalogue change, and test a restore on a few items so you know it works before you need it.

What the work involves

  • Backups running before migrations and bulk changes
  • A test restore of a product, a collection and a theme file
  • A note of what Rewind can't restore for your store
  • Theme code also kept in Git, independent of the backup

Ways to connect Rewind and Shopify

  • Existing app

    Rewind Backups

Automatic and on-demand backups of products, themes, collections and customer data, with one-click restores of single items or the whole store.

  • Custom build

    Theme in Git

For theme code, Git is the better history. Use both: Git for code, Rewind for store data.

Where these projects go wrong

  • Assuming everything comes back. Images linked by hard-coded URLs aren't attached to products and aren't backed up.
  • Restored products may need inventory tracking switched on again and stock recounted.
  • Never testing a restore until the day it's needed.

Our experience

We haven't delivered a Rewind project for a client yet. This page is how we would approach one, and we check access and platform limits before quoting.

Questions

Does Shopify back up our store?
Shopify keeps the platform running, but it doesn't give you a way to roll back your own product data. That's what a backup app is for.
Is Rewind enough for theme code?
It backs up themes, but Git gives you a reviewable history of every change. We use both.

Before we scope the work

  • Which data or customer journey needs to connect, and which system owns it?
  • What access, plan features or API permissions are available?
  • Does an existing connector cover the requirement, including failures and updates?
  • Who will maintain the connection, and how will you know it is working?

Send your current setup and one real example of the flow you need. We'll tell you whether it can be done and what it would take.
