What Mollie is

Mollie is a European payment provider. On Shopify it adds local payment methods such as iDEAL, cards and Klarna, alongside or instead of Shopify Payments.

Where these projects go wrong

• Mollie settles payments automatically even when the store is set to manual capture, which surprises teams that capture on fulfilment.
• Klarna orders follow Shopify's rules for third-party providers, which changes how their status shows in Mollie.
• Installation fails because the person installing isn't the owner in both Shopify and Mollie.
• Methods are enabled in Shopify but not activated in the Mollie dashboard.

Questions

Do we still need Shopify Payments if we use Mollie?

Not necessarily, but compare fees and methods first. Using a third-party provider can carry Shopify transaction fees depending on your plan.

Does Mollie redirect customers away from checkout?

Mollie says its card field keeps customers on the store. Some methods, such as bank payments, hand off to the bank as part of the payment.

Which Mollie app should we install?

Usually Mollie ‑ Payments, which bundles all methods. Single-method apps exist if you only need one.
