Microsoft Clarity + Shopify integration
- Analytics
- UX Monitoring
Connecting Microsoft Clarity to Shopify comes down to three decisions: which data moves, which system owns it, and whether an existing connector is enough.
Describe your setup ↗What Microsoft Clarity is
Microsoft Clarity is a free behaviour analytics tool: session recordings, heatmaps, scroll depth and signals like rage clicks and dead clicks.
How we would approach Microsoft Clarity with Shopify
We run Clarity next to GA4 and Shopify Analytics on a UK PC store and use it in conversion work: analytics shows where people drop out, recordings show why. Recordings are useful only with a question. We set up masking and consent first, then watch sessions for the step that's losing people and turn what we see into ranked fixes.
What the work involves
- Clarity installed through Microsoft's Shopify app
- Sensitive fields masked and consent respected
- Clarity connected to GA4 so segments match
- Recordings reviewed against a specific funnel question
Ways to connect Microsoft Clarity and Shopify
Where these projects go wrong
- Recordings collected for months and never watched.
- Masking left on defaults on pages with personal details.
- Expecting full checkout recordings, which Shopify's checkout limits.
- Acting on one memorable session instead of a pattern.
Our experience
We have delivered Microsoft Clarity work in client Shopify projects. Your setup still gets checked before we quote.

Questions
- Is Microsoft Clarity really free?
- Yes. Clarity doesn't charge for recordings or heatmaps.
- Can Clarity record Shopify checkout?
- Only in a limited way. Shopify's checkout restricts third-party scripts, so expect most insight from product, collection and cart pages.
- Clarity or Hotjar?
- For most Shopify stores Clarity covers recordings and heatmaps at no cost. Hotjar adds surveys and feedback tools some teams want.
Before we scope the work
- Which data or customer journey needs to connect, and which system owns it?
- What access, plan features or API permissions are available?
- Does an existing connector cover the requirement, including failures and updates?
- Who will maintain the connection, and how will you know it is working?
Send your current setup and one real example of the flow you need. We'll tell you whether it can be done and what it would take.
