Mailchimp + Shopify integration
Connecting Mailchimp to Shopify comes down to three decisions: which data moves, which system owns it, and whether an existing connector is enough.
Describe your setup ↗What Mailchimp is
Mailchimp is an email and SMS marketing platform. Connected to Shopify, it uses customers, orders and products for segments, abandoned-cart emails and revenue reporting.
How we would approach Mailchimp with Shopify
The connection takes minutes; getting it right takes longer. We check which Mailchimp audience the store should feed, how existing subscribers' consent maps across, and which automations will fire on the first sync. Then we connect, verify that customers, orders and products arrive, and test each automation before it reaches real customers.
What the work involves
- One audience chosen and existing consent mapped before the first sync
- Mailchimp's app connected and customer, order and product data verified
- Abandoned-cart and post-purchase automations tested before going live
- Sign-up forms on the store that record marketing consent
Ways to connect Mailchimp and Shopify
Where these projects go wrong
- Reinstalling or reconnecting the app treats past customers as new and triggers automations. A September 2026 review on the app listing reports exactly this.
- The store feeds a different audience from the one the team sends to.
- Subscribers imported without their original consent status.
- Abandoned-cart flows run alongside another email app's, so customers get both.
Our experience
We haven't delivered a Mailchimp project for a client yet. This page is how we would approach one, and we check access and platform limits before quoting.
Questions
- Is the Mailchimp app still on the Shopify App Store?
- Yes, as of October 2026: "Mailchimp Email SMS Marketing" by Intuit Mailchimp. A 2025 report said it was being removed; the listing is live and still receiving reviews.
- Should we move from Mailchimp to Klaviyo?
- Not by default. Moving platforms costs time and re-warming. If Mailchimp does what your flows need, improve the flows first.
- Will connecting the app email our existing customers?
- It can, if automations are switched on during the first sync. We turn them on only after the data is in and tested.
Before we scope the work
- Which data or customer journey needs to connect, and which system owns it?
- What access, plan features or API permissions are available?
- Does an existing connector cover the requirement, including failures and updates?
- Who will maintain the connection, and how will you know it is working?
Send your current setup and one real example of the flow you need. We'll tell you whether it can be done and what it would take.
