Lightspeed + Shopify integration
- POS
Connecting Lightspeed to Shopify comes down to three decisions: which data moves, which system owns it, and whether an existing connector is enough.
Describe your setup ↗What Lightspeed is
Lightspeed Retail is a point-of-sale system for physical shops. Retailers who run Lightspeed in store connect it to Shopify to sell the same stock online.
How we would approach Lightspeed with Shopify
The first question is which system owns products and stock: usually Lightspeed. We match products by SKU, choose which shops' and warehouses' stock sells online, and test what happens when an item sells in both places at once. Product content for the web, such as descriptions and images, usually needs its own home.
What the work involves
- Products matched by SKU before the first sync
- Online stock limited to the chosen shops and warehouses
- Simultaneous in-store and online sales tested
- A plan for web-only content such as descriptions and media
Ways to connect Lightspeed and Shopify
Where these projects go wrong
- SKUs that don't match, so products duplicate.
- All stock published online, including shop floor display units.
- Web descriptions overwritten by POS product data.
Our experience
We haven't delivered a Lightspeed project for a client yet. This page is how we would approach one, and we check access and platform limits before quoting.
Questions
- Should we move to Shopify POS?
- If Lightspeed works for your shops, a sync is cheaper. If the sync keeps causing problems, one system for both channels removes them.
Before we scope the work
- Which data or customer journey needs to connect, and which system owns it?
- What access, plan features or API permissions are available?
- Does an existing connector cover the requirement, including failures and updates?
- Who will maintain the connection, and how will you know it is working?
Send your current setup and one real example of the flow you need. We'll tell you whether it can be done and what it would take.
