Intercom + Shopify integration
- Customer service
Connecting Intercom to Shopify comes down to three decisions: which data moves, which system owns it, and whether an existing connector is enough.
Describe your setup ↗What Intercom is
Intercom is a customer service platform with a messenger, a shared inbox and Fin, its AI agent.
How we would approach Intercom with Shopify
The point of connecting Shopify is that support stops asking "what's your order number?". We connect the app, decide what agents and Fin may do (look up orders, edit addresses, refund), set limits for each, and test the common questions (where's my order, change my address, return) end to end before customers see it.
What the work involves
- Intercom's Shopify app connected, for one store or several
- Rules for what agents and Fin may change, such as refunds and addresses
- The messenger placed so it doesn't cover buying buttons on mobile
- The top support questions tested end to end
Ways to connect Intercom and Shopify
Where these projects go wrong
- Fin or agents can refund without limits nobody agreed.
- The messenger launcher sits over the add-to-cart button on mobile.
- Support macros still ask for details Intercom already has.
Our experience
We haven't delivered a Intercom project for a client yet. This page is how we would approach one, and we check access and platform limits before quoting.
Questions
- Can Fin answer "where is my order?"
- Yes. With the Shopify app connected, Fin uses live order and shipping data. Check what it's allowed to change before switching it on.
- Intercom or Gorgias for Shopify?
- Gorgias is built around e-commerce support. Intercom suits companies that also use it for sales or product messaging. Use the one your team already knows if it covers your needs.
Before we scope the work
- Which data or customer journey needs to connect, and which system owns it?
- What access, plan features or API permissions are available?
- Does an existing connector cover the requirement, including failures and updates?
- Who will maintain the connection, and how will you know it is working?
Send your current setup and one real example of the flow you need. We'll tell you whether it can be done and what it would take.
