inRiver + Shopify integration

  • PIM

Connecting inRiver to Shopify comes down to three decisions: which data moves, which system owns it, and whether an existing connector is enough.

Describe your setup ↗

What inRiver is

inRiver is a product information management (PIM) platform used by manufacturers and brands to manage product data and syndicate it to retailers and their own channels.

How we would approach inRiver with Shopify

inRiver models products as linked entities, which rarely match Shopify's products and variants one to one. We map inRiver's entity model to Shopify products, variants, metafields and media, decide which system owns each field, and test with your most complicated products before switching on regular updates.

What the work involves

  • A map from inRiver entities to Shopify products, variants and metafields
  • One owner per field, written down
  • Test syncs with the most complex product families
  • Alerts for records that fail to sync

Ways to connect inRiver and Shopify

  • Existing app

    inRiver Shopify adapter

inRiver's ready-made connector for publishing product data to Shopify, announced with its Shopify partnership in November 2025.

  • Custom build

    Custom sync

For catalogue logic the adapter doesn't cover, using inRiver's and Shopify's APIs.

Where these projects go wrong

  • inRiver's entity model forced into Shopify variants without a plan.
  • Media and translations left out of the first sync.
  • Edits in Shopify overwritten by the next PIM sync.

Our experience

We haven't delivered a inRiver project for a client yet. This page is how we would approach one, and we check access and platform limits before quoting.

Questions

Does inRiver have an official Shopify connector?
Yes. inRiver offers a Shopify adapter as part of its Shopify partnership. Check what it maps for your data model before relying on it.
How long does an inRiver to Shopify integration take?
It depends on how complex your entity model is. We map a sample of products first and quote after.

Before we scope the work

  • Which data or customer journey needs to connect, and which system owns it?
  • What access, plan features or API permissions are available?
  • Does an existing connector cover the requirement, including failures and updates?
  • Who will maintain the connection, and how will you know it is working?

Send your current setup and one real example of the flow you need. We'll tell you whether it can be done and what it would take.
