Google Cloud Platform + Shopify integration

  • Hosting

Connecting Google Cloud Platform to Shopify comes down to three decisions: which data moves, which system owns it, and whether an existing connector is enough.

Describe your setup ↗

What Google Cloud Platform is

Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is a cloud platform. Around Shopify it hosts custom apps and integrations and stores data for analysis in BigQuery.

How we would approach Google Cloud Platform with Shopify

Shopify can send webhooks straight to Google Pub/Sub, so events queue safely even during busy periods. We build workers that process them with retries, and, where you want deeper reporting, load orders and products into BigQuery for analysis beside your GA4 export.

What the work involves

  • Shopify webhooks delivered to Pub/Sub
  • Workers with retries and a store of failed events
  • BigQuery tables for orders and products where reporting needs them
  • Costs estimated before building

Ways to connect Google Cloud Platform and Shopify

  • Built in

    Shopify webhooks to Google Pub/Sub

Shopify can deliver webhook subscriptions to a Pub/Sub topic instead of a public URL.

  • Custom build

    Cloud Run or Functions

Containers or functions that process events and sync data.

Where these projects go wrong

  • No reconciliation, so missed webhooks go unnoticed.
  • BigQuery tables nobody uses.

Our experience

We haven't delivered a Google Cloud Platform project for a client yet. This page is how we would approach one, and we check access and platform limits before quoting.

Questions

Why Pub/Sub instead of a normal webhook URL?
Events queue reliably and you don't need a public endpoint. It suits higher volumes.

Before we scope the work

  • Which data or customer journey needs to connect, and which system owns it?
  • What access, plan features or API permissions are available?
  • Does an existing connector cover the requirement, including failures and updates?
  • Who will maintain the connection, and how will you know it is working?

Send your current setup and one real example of the flow you need. We'll tell you whether it can be done and what it would take.
