DeepL + Shopify integration

  • International

Connecting DeepL to Shopify comes down to three decisions: which data moves, which system owns it, and whether an existing connector is enough.

Describe your setup ↗

What DeepL is

DeepL is a machine translation service known for natural-sounding output in European languages, with glossaries to keep product and brand terms consistent.

How we would approach DeepL with Shopify

DeepL works best as the first draft inside a translation workflow, not the last word. We use it through your translation app or an export-import process, add a glossary for product names, materials and sizes, and have a native speaker review the pages that sell: product pages, checkout messages and policies.

What the work involves

  • DeepL used through your translation app or an export-import workflow
  • A glossary for product names, materials and sizes
  • Native-speaker review of product, checkout and policy pages
  • Theme and app strings included, not only products

Ways to connect DeepL and Shopify

  • Existing app

    Through a translation app

Several Shopify translation apps can use DeepL as their machine-translation engine. Check your app's options.

  • Custom build

    DeepL API with exports

Export content from Shopify, translate with the DeepL API and a glossary, review, then import.

Where these projects go wrong

  • Machine-translated legal and size information published without review.
  • Brand and product names translated when they shouldn't be.
  • Only product content translated, leaving theme and checkout strings in the original language.

Our experience

We haven't delivered a DeepL project for a client yet. This page is how we would approach one, and we check access and platform limits before quoting.

Questions

Is DeepL good enough without a translator?
For a first draft, often yes. Pages that affect buying decisions or legal terms still need a native speaker's review.

Before we scope the work

  • Which data or customer journey needs to connect, and which system owns it?
  • What access, plan features or API permissions are available?
  • Does an existing connector cover the requirement, including failures and updates?
  • Who will maintain the connection, and how will you know it is working?

Send your current setup and one real example of the flow you need. We'll tell you whether it can be done and what it would take.
