Cookiebot (by Usercentrics) is a consent management platform. It scans a site's cookies, shows the consent banner and blocks trackers until visitors agree.
How we would approach Cookiebot with Shopify
We install Cookiebot CMP, check in Shopify's customer privacy settings that it is the registered consent tool, and switch off Shopify's own banner so visitors aren't asked twice. Then we test the store with consent given, refused and partial, and check Google Consent Mode signals reach your Google tags.

Ways to connect Cookiebot and Shopify
Where these projects go wrong
- Two banners show at once because Shopify's own banner is still on.
- Cookiebot blocks scripts but Shopify's consent state isn't updated, so Shopify pixels ignore the choice.
- Tags added in the theme run before the banner loads.

Questions
- How do we know Cookiebot is passing consent to Shopify?
- Check Settings › Customer privacy in Shopify admin to see that Cookiebot is the registered app, then change your choice in the banner and confirm Shopify's consent state changes.
- Do we need Cookiebot if Shopify has a banner?
- Depends on your markets, your tags and legal advice. Cookiebot adds cookie scanning, more detailed categories and Google Consent Mode support.
