Azure DevOps + Shopify integration
- Developer tools
Connecting Azure DevOps to Shopify comes down to three decisions: which data moves, which system owns it, and whether an existing connector is enough.
Describe your setup ↗What Azure DevOps is
Azure DevOps provides repositories, boards and pipelines. Companies on Microsoft tooling often keep all code there, including their Shopify theme and apps.
How we would approach Azure DevOps with Shopify
If your company already runs Azure DevOps, we work inside it: theme and app code in your repositories, pull-request reviews, and pipelines that run Theme Check and deploy with the Shopify CLI using a Theme Access password stored as a secret.
What the work involves
- Theme and app code in your Azure Repos
- Pull-request reviews and branch policies
- Pipelines that check and deploy with the Shopify CLI
- Merchant settings protected from being overwritten
Ways to connect Azure DevOps and Shopify
Where these projects go wrong
- Deploys that overwrite theme editor settings.
- Secrets stored in pipeline files instead of secure variables.
Our experience
We haven't delivered a Azure DevOps project for a client yet. This page is how we would approach one, and we check access and platform limits before quoting.
Questions
- Do we need Azure DevOps for Shopify?
- No. Use it if your company already does; otherwise GitHub is simpler.
Before we scope the work
- Which data or customer journey needs to connect, and which system owns it?
- What access, plan features or API permissions are available?
- Does an existing connector cover the requirement, including failures and updates?
- Who will maintain the connection, and how will you know it is working?
Send your current setup and one real example of the flow you need. We'll tell you whether it can be done and what it would take.
