AB Tasty + Shopify integration

  • Testing

Connecting AB Tasty to Shopify comes down to three decisions: which data moves, which system owns it, and whether an existing connector is enough.

Describe your setup ↗

What AB Tasty is

AB Tasty is an experimentation and personalisation platform: A/B tests, multivariate tests and targeted experiences, built in a visual editor or with code.

How we would approach AB Tasty with Shopify

Before any tool, we check whether your store has the orders to read a test. As a rule of thumb, a testing programme needs around 1,000 orders a month; below that we fix things and measure against a baseline instead. If testing fits, we install AB Tasty's app so Shopify events feed the tests, build variations in code where the visual editor would be fragile, and QA each one before launch.

What the work involves

  • A check that traffic and orders can support testing
  • AB Tasty's app installed and Shopify events flowing into tests
  • Variations coded where the visual editor is fragile, and QA'd on real devices
  • A stopping rule written down before each test starts

Ways to connect AB Tasty and Shopify

  • Existing app

    AB Tasty | CRO & A/B Testing

AB Tasty's Shopify app for existing AB Tasty customers. Sends Shopify events into AB Tasty and connects to analytics tools such as GA4.

  • Custom build

    Theme alternate templates

For whole-layout tests, a split-URL test can send visitors to an alternate Shopify template. More robust than rewriting the page in the browser.

Where these projects go wrong

  • Testing on a store without the orders to reach a result, so tests end on noise.
  • Visual-editor changes that break when the theme updates.
  • Variations that flicker as the page loads.
  • Tests stopped early because the first days look good.

Our experience

We haven't delivered a AB Tasty project for a client yet. This page is how we would approach one, and we check access and platform limits before quoting.

Questions

How many orders do we need to A/B test?
As a rule of thumb, around 1,000 a month for a testing programme. Fewer orders means fewer tests you can read, and small changes won't show up.
Do you build the test variations?
Yes. We research, design and code the variations ourselves, so tests don't wait on another developer.

Before we scope the work

  • Which data or customer journey needs to connect, and which system owns it?
  • What access, plan features or API permissions are available?
  • Does an existing connector cover the requirement, including failures and updates?
  • Who will maintain the connection, and how will you know it is working?

Send your current setup and one real example of the flow you need. We'll tell you whether it can be done and what it would take.
